Roof Storm Damage Spotlight: House Hit by Lightning

The Anchor Roofing Team Fully Repaired Roof Storm Damage on This Home

Here in the Omaha area, roof storm damage is all too common. Typically, roof damage arises due to factors such as large hail and high winds gusting across the Great Plains. It’s not every day, though, that we see a house that was actually struck and damaged by lightning during one of Omaha’s severe storms!

In today’s Project Spotlight, we’re taking a look at a particularly unique roof storm damage repair, where the Anchor Roofing team was called in after a lightning strike on this home in La Vista. Our team completed a full inspection documenting all damage and ultimately completed a full replacement on this home. Let’s take a look!

The Client: A Local La Vista Homeowner

Our client for this project was a homeowner in La Vista, in the southwestern portion of the Omaha metro area. The homeowner called our team at Anchor Roofing after a severe storm swept through the area. During the storm, lightning hit the home’s roof, frying many electronic devices inside the house.

Following a referral, the homeowner reached out to our team to complete a full inspection for storm damage. Our storm damage inspection process is well known for being very thorough, and our team was prepared to identify and diagnose all damage to this home.

The Project: Storm Damage Roof Replacement

Once we got on the roof, we found much more than just lightning damage. In fact, the damage due to lightning appeared fairly moderate, with a highly localized dent in the roof that almost looked like a hammer strike.

Elsewhere, however, the hail damage was extensive. We found numerous impacts to the roof, including the shingles and soft metals. We also found dents and chips in the siding around the home. All of this signaled that the hail damage was more extensive, and the homeowner filed a claim to address it.

How We Made a Difference: Storm Damage Expertise closeup of lightning damage on a roof in Omaha

Our team at Anchor Roofing is well versed in storm damage inspection, diagnosis, and repair. We also have a large amount of experience helping homeowners navigate the insurance claim process, and that came in handy for this project, particularly when it came to knowing what to file the claim for.

As mentioned, the roof damage due to the lightning hit was relatively moderate, while the hail damage inspection revealed a high volume of impacts. Rather than filing for the lightning strike, which the homeowner knew about when he called, we knew the hail damage was much more substantive and likely to result in a successful claim.

When the time came for the adjustment, the insurance company agreed with our assessment and approved a full roof replacement.

The Result: A New Roof Ready to Repel Hail

With the replacement approved, our team got to work completing the job. We used CertainTeed Landmark ClimateFlex shingles for the project, and the homeowner chose the Weathered Wood color. These shingles are manufactured to be both strong and pliable, helping to enhance resistance to hail impacts and cold weather.

Our client was very pleased with the result—a brand new roof that was free of storm damage and ready to weather the next round of severe weather.
